Bermuda Regulator Approves First Decentralized Exchange
DerivaDEX has launched a regulated cryptocurrency derivatives trading platform in Bermuda after receiving a test license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The exchange is positioned as the first decentralized exchange (DAO-governed) to operate under formal regulatory approval.
The BMA's T license allows digital asset businesses to validate a proof-of-concept model under regulatory oversight. DerivaDEX has begun offering crypto perpetual swaps to a limited pool of advanced retail and institutional participants, with plans to expand into prediction markets and traditional securities over time.
The platform was developed by DEXLabs and combines off-chain order matching with on-chain settlement to Ethereum. Users can retain noncustodial control of their funds throughout the trading process, thanks to encrypted order handling and trusted execution environments that reduce the risk of front-running and market manipulation.
DerivaDEX's governance follows a DAO structure, where token holders vote on decisions according to rules encoded in smart contracts rather than relying on a centralized management team. This model is distinct from most licensed derivatives venues, which operate under conventional corporate governance frameworks.
