Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has issued a warning to entities laundering money for Iran, threatening to cut them out of the U.S. dollar system.

The threat was made on Monday, but no sanctions have been imposed yet. Instead, Washington will first send individual countries deadlines to shut down activity it has identified.

Oil prices fell in response, with Brent crude hitting $90.44 and West Texas Intermediate losing 2% to $85.76. However, gold rose, touching a three-month high of $4,653.23, while Bitcoin traded near $78,676, up 1.9% on the day.

The campaign, called Operation Economic Outcast, targets five sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. The determination runs just one page and was signed by OFAC Director Bradley T. Smith at 9:25 a.m. Eastern, effective the same day.
