Bhutan Shifts $32.7 Million in Bitcoin Amid Price Surge
Bhutan has moved approximately $32.7 million in Bitcoin as its price surged past $78,000.
The Royal Government of Bhutan transferred a total of 491.212 BTC to new addresses between August 18 and August 21, with the majority flowing into a single address associated with their wallets.
This transfer coincided with a sharp upward move in Bitcoin's price, which reclaimed $78,000 around 09:00 UTC on August 21, up 8.23% over 24 hours, 23.73% over the past week, and 17.8% over the past month.
The purpose of this transfer remains unclear, with possibilities including custody changes, cold storage migration, or preparation for sale. Druk Holding and Investments, the country's state-owned investment arm, has been operating mining facilities powered by hydroelectric resources since years ago, effectively converting surplus energy into a globally tradable digital asset.
