Bhutan Taps 3iQ to Manage Part of Bitcoin Treasury in Digital Hub Bid
Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City has taken another step towards establishing itself as a digital offshore financial center. The city has partnered with Canadian digital-asset manager 3iQ to manage part of its Bitcoin treasury.
The partnership is the next phase in a plan announced in December 2025, where up to 10,000 Bitcoin from Bhutan's national holdings would be allocated to support Gelephu's development. The exact amount placed under management by 3iQ remains undisclosed, as do custody arrangements and any potential strategies for generating yield.
According to 3iQ CEO Pascal St-Jean, the firm will bring 'institutional discipline' to the mandate and help put Bhutan's capital to work 'responsibly, transparently and for the long term'. Gelephu board director Jigdrel Singay described 3iQ as one of the city's founding institutional partners.
The partnership marks a significant development in Gelephu's ambitions, with further milestones expected to be announced as the city works towards establishing itself as a hub for innovation, sustainability and institutional asset management.
