Bhutan Taps Canadian Firm to Manage National Bitcoin Reserves
Canadian digital asset management firm 3iQ has formed a strategic partnership with Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a special administrative region in southern Bhutan, to manage a portion of the country's Bitcoin reserves.
The partnership materializes GMC's policy direction outlined in December 2025, which aimed to allocate up to 10,000 BTC from the nation's overall Bitcoin holdings for urban development initiatives.
3iQ will not only manage a dedicated vehicle backed by a portion of these holdings but also invest in local talent and facilitate knowledge transfer, building a long-term operational foundation in Gelephu.
The selection of 3iQ was based on the firm's 'institutional credibility and track record in digital asset management.'
