Bhutan’s Gelephu Taps Canadian Manager for Part of Bitcoin Treasury
Bhutan's Gelephu has taken another step towards developing its digital economy by partnering with Canadian digital-asset manager 3iQ. The company will handle part of Bhutan's Bitcoin (BTC) treasury, which is earmarked to fund the city's development by December 2025.
The agreement marks the next stage in a plan to allocate as many as 10,000 Bitcoin from the country's holdings to support Gelephu's growth. 3iQ will manage these assets with a long-term perspective and apply institutional-grade investment principles, ensuring responsible and transparent management.
Jigdril Singye, a board director at Gelephu, described 3iQ as one of the city's founding institutional partners, highlighting their commitment to innovation and sustainability. As Gelephu seeks to establish itself as a digital offshore financial hub, this partnership is seen as a significant milestone.
