Biden Launches Meme Coin LAPTOP to Target Trump's Biggest Losers
Hunter Biden is launching a new meme coin called LAPTOP on September 9th. According to the Wall Street Journal, the token will be available on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network created by Coinbase in 2023.
The name LAPTOP references the laptop at the center of controversy during the 2020 election, which contained contents published by the New York Post. Hunter Biden is personally part of the founding team, not lending his name to someone else's project.
LAPTOP will have a total supply of 1 billion tokens. Founders, including Biden, will keep 30% of this supply, locked for six months and then unlocking gradually over two years. This vesting schedule is meant to prevent insiders from dumping tokens immediately after launch.
The project has a unique edge: it plans to give away 20% of its tokens through two rounds of airdrops to specific wallets. The first round will target subscribers of Hunter Biden's Substack and members of Andrew Callaghan's Channel 5 mailing list, while the second round will aim at traders who lost money on TRUMP.
The latter pool is not small: it includes users tied to the Trump Organization, which controls 80% of TRUMP's supply under a multi-year vesting schedule. This means that both LAPTOP and TRUMP concentrate their tokens in founders' pockets.
