Binance Accused of Compromising User Data in Terrorism Case
Binance, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, has found itself at the center of controversy after it emerged that the company had handed over customer data to Russian authorities. According to a report by Reuters, Binance provided personal and transaction information for a user named Yuri Belenkiy, which was then used as evidence against him in a terrorism financing case.
Belenkiy, a 49-year-old IT specialist who holds both a Russian passport and a Bulgarian residency permit, was detained in September 2025 and formally charged on October 13 of that year. He is still awaiting trial.
The data file provided by Binance included Belenkiy's transaction history, his date of birth, home address, phone number, passport number, and a scanned copy of his passport. It also included a copy of his Bulgarian residency permit. This information was reportedly used as evidence against him in court.
