Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has been accused of handing over client details to Russian authorities after it claimed to have exited the country in 2023.

The information was used as evidence to bring terrorism financing charges against a Russian IT specialist who donated more than $700 to Ukrainian fundraising campaigns.

According to law enforcement documents, Binance provided transaction history and other details about Yuri Belenkiy's crypto transfers to the Investigative Committee in Russia.

The case highlights the complex issue of data protection laws, particularly under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which prohibits companies from sharing personal data without a court order.
