Binance has been accused of sharing customer data with Russian authorities, which was later used to charge an IT specialist with financing terrorism.

According to Reuters, Binance provided personal information about Yuri Belenkiy, including his date of birth, home address, phone number, and passport number.

The data disclosure occurred after Binance announced the sale of its Russian operations to CommEX in September 2023. At the time, the company stated that continuing to operate in Russia was incompatible with its compliance strategy.

Belenkiy was detained by Russian authorities in September 2025 and remains in custody awaiting trial. The Investigative Committee alleges that he made cryptocurrency payments between January 2023 and March 2024 to support Ukraine's military and a group associated with the Azov Brigade, which Russia designates as a terrorist organization.
