Binance Accused of Sharing User Info with Russian Officials After Market Exit
Crypto exchange Binance has been accused of sharing user information with Russian officials after it claimed to have withdrawn from the Russian market. According to documents, investigators sought records connected to cryptocurrency transfers made in response to public fundraising appeals for Ukrainian causes.
The client in question was a Russian IT specialist holding a Bulgarian residency permit, and the records included confirmation of transfers, along with personal identifiers such as date of birth, residential address, telephone number, passport details, and copies of both a Russian passport and the Bulgarian residency document.
Russian authorities detained the individual in September 2025, charging them with financing terrorism. The payments totaled a few hundred dollars and took place between early 2023 and early 2024.
Legislative observers have questioned whether Binance was required to supply the information once it had left the Russian market, citing European Union data-protection rules.
