Binance: Africa Poised to Leapfrog Traditional AI Adoption
Binance believes Africa is poised to leapfrog traditional adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and become a leader in agentic AI, which enables businesses to automate tasks with AI-powered agents. The continent has a history of skipping legacy technologies in favor of newer innovations, as seen with the rapid adoption of mobile money.
According to Larry Cooke, Binance Africa, 'This is genuinely one of Africa's best shots at leading rather than following.' He notes that businesses moving quickly on agentic AI are those that have a clear understanding of what they want their agents to do. In South Africa, the AI agents sector is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of over 52% through 2033.
Binance has introduced Agent OS, a developer platform that allows AI applications to connect to trading, market data, wallet, payment, and on-chain functions under user-set permissions. This platform addresses the fragmentation developers face when building agentic finance applications across crypto and traditional markets.
Cooke emphasizes the importance of education keeping pace with deployment, as people need to understand what the agents in front of them are doing. Binance is committed to supporting this shift by building infrastructure that changes what's possible in the future.
