Binance Blasted by Peter Brandt for Causing Flash Crash During Bitcoin Price Anomaly
Renowned technical analyst Peter Brandt has questioned the reliability of Binance's trading infrastructure after a deep, isolated anomaly in Bitcoin's price. The incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 22, when a localized price dislocation triggered a cascade of forced liquidations and knocked out retail clients' protective orders.
The market drawdown on Binance instantly escalated into a localized flash crash. On the one-hour BTC/USD chart, an extreme downward wick formed as the price plunged to $72,500 within seconds, while the broader market remained near $79,000.
A comparison with charts from Coinbase confirms the anomalous nature of the move. During the same hour, Bitcoin's lowest price on Coinbase remained at $75,800, producing a $3,300 interexchange spread.
