Binance Blocks 16 Crypto Platforms Amid Ongoing Regulatory Scrutiny
Binance has announced that it will block transactions with 16 crypto platforms by August 23rd, citing 'recent regulatory developments'. The move affects HTX and EXMO, two exchanges that have been under scrutiny due to sanctions actions in the EU and UK. Binance also cut off five smaller platforms earlier this month.
HTX disputes the designation from the UK's sanctions authority, arguing it applies only to a separate legal entity. However, its daily spot volume has declined sharply, from over $5 billion in late 2025 to $572.8 million as of August 14th, according to CoinGecko.
EXMO, on the other hand, is shutting down operations entirely rather than contesting the designation. Binance's move comes amid ongoing scrutiny of its own compliance record, including a $4.3 billion settlement with US authorities in November 2023 and an independent monitorship that has been under review.
