Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao predicts that initial public offerings (IPOs) will eventually move directly onto blockchain networks. This shift is already gaining traction, with tokenized equities representing about $2.9 billion in on-chain value.

The infrastructure for blockchain-based securities is advancing rapidly, with Securitize partnering with BlackRock to manage blockchain ownership records and transfer-agent services for tokenized funds. Crypto.com has also launched 1,500 tokenized stocks and ETFs, offering fractional exposure from $1 to users.

While on-chain IPOs would not remove regulatory requirements, they could offer a more efficient and accessible way of issuing and distributing securities. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is reviewing how existing securities rules can accommodate blockchain-based assets.
