Binance Dominance Grows as Crypto Spot Volume Plunges 21.7% in July
Crypto spot volume declined sharply in July, with a total of $429 billion traded across major exchanges. This represents a 21.7% drop from June's $547.9 billion, according to WuBlockchain data.
All 14 major exchanges tracked by the report experienced declines, indicating a broad retreat in trading appetite during the summer months. However, the rate of decline varied significantly between venues, with some platforms faring better than others.
Binance maintained its dominant position, accounting for 45.8% of total market share and recording $196.5 billion in spot trades. The top three exchanges, Binance, OKX, and Bybit, together captured 64% of all spot volume.
Uniswap, the decentralized exchange, held up relatively well with a 9.8% monthly decline. In contrast, Bitfinex suffered the steepest drop, with its spot volume cratering 59.7%. This raises questions about the exchange's exposure to altcoin margin trading and international user bases.
Liquidity concentration at Binance is contributing to a structural imbalance in the market, potentially exacerbating slippage risks for asset managers executing across multiple exchanges.
