Binance Employees Caught Up in UAE Detentions Despite Emirati Backing
Binance employees were detained in the UAE despite receiving $2 billion backing from Emirati authorities, according to recent reports.
The detentions took place at airports in Sharjah and Emirati police held two Binance workers overnight before releasing them. A third employee was questioned at a station in July after answering queries about customer deposits and withdrawals.
Binance has explained that its staff were caught up in fraud cases centered on customers, but none of the employees were tied to the offenses. The company cited Abu Dhabi's licensing rules to justify handling some foreign police requests differently.
The link between Binance and Emirati authorities may be more than just coincidence. A state-backed fund invested $2 billion in March 2025, with one payment made using a stablecoin tied to the Trump family.
