Binance Employees Detained Amid Emirati Fraud Investigation
Two Binance employees were detained at Emirati airports in recent weeks as part of a fraud investigation into money moving through the exchange, according to The New York Times. The detentions reportedly occurred after police pulled them aside during routine inquiries related to third-party fund flows.
A mid-level employee was held overnight at a Sharjah police station this month after being stopped at the airport, while another employee was stopped by police at a different Emirati airport around the same time.
Binance's main regulator is based in the Emirates. The company has a corporate bank account in the country that handles customer deposits and withdrawals, with a number of employees named on it.
The detentions have unsettled Binance employees, who were asked by the Emirati government for assistance this month due to concerns about employee safety.
