Binance Employees Detained in UAE Amid Cryptocurrency Probe
Two employees of Binance were detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in recent weeks, according to the New York Times. The detainees were stopped at airports in the UAE amid police inquiries into possible financial crimes on the BTC platform.
The exact nature of the investigation is unclear, but Binance stated that a small number of employees were asked to provide statements as part of routine inquiries into third-party fund flows through a client money account. The company emphasized that these individuals were not targets of the probe and were cleared and released.
Binance has faced regulatory scrutiny in several regions in recent years, including a 2024 charge from Nigerian authorities alleging laundering over $35 million. Binance denied the allegations and secured a license to operate in Dubai in 2022.
