Binance Employees Detained in UAE Amid Ongoing Investigation
Binance employees were detained in the UAE as part of an investigation into potential financial crimes involving the platform, according to the New York Times.
A mid-level staff member was held overnight at a police station in Sharjah, while another official from Binance's Dubai-based subsidiary was interrogated in July.
Binance responded by saying that its employees were subjected to 'routine inquiries' as part of third-party fund flows and were promptly cleared and released after providing standard statements to UAE authorities.
This incident is not the first time Binance has faced scrutiny from law enforcement agencies worldwide. In 2023, the company pleaded guilty to federal charges involving anti-money laundering violations and paid $4.3 billion in one of the largest corporate fines in U.S. history.
