Binance Employees Detained in UAE Amid Police Probe Into Financial Crimes
Binance employees have been detained in the UAE amid an ongoing police investigation into suspected financial crimes tied to the platform.
The detentions, which occurred at airports in Sharjah and Dubai, involve two Binance staff members who were intercepted by authorities. One of them was a mid-level staffer held overnight at a police station in Sharjah, while a separate executive from Binance's Dubai-based subsidiary was questioned at a police facility in July.
Binance pushed back against the framing of the story, stating that only a handful of employees had been approached to provide statements as part of routine checks into third-party fund flows through one of its institutional client money accounts. The exchange claims none of the staff members were targets of the probe and have all been cleared and released.
The detentions carry weight due to their location, as Binance has transformed the UAE from an operational outpost into a corporate home over the past four years. The country's institutional heft is not just regulatory; Abu Dhabi's state-linked investment vehicle MGX put $2 billion into Binance in 2025.
