Binance Employees Detained in UAE Over Customer Funds Account
Binance employees have been questioned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over a bank account holding customer funds. The authorities in Sharjah and Dubai, some of whom were signatories on the account, conducted routine statements regarding third-party fund movements.
The company's spokesperson stated that the employees were never considered suspects and were released after being held for a short period. One individual was detained overnight but no charges were filed.
This marks the first time Binance staff have been detained in the UAE, even temporarily. The incident comes at a delicate time for Binance, which has positioned the UAE as its primary hub after facing intense pressure from U.S. regulators.
Binance obtained a license to operate in Abu Dhabi's financial free zone and its founder, Changpeng Zhao, became a UAE citizen and purchased a home in Dubai. The local government has been welcoming to the crypto industry.
