Binance Expands Crypto Payments to Over 3,700 Merchants in Bhutan
Binance has expanded its cryptocurrency payment service, Binance Pay, to over 3,700 merchants in Bhutan through a partnership with DK Bank. The integration allows customers to make payments using USDT, a dollar-linked stablecoin.
The expansion follows the initial national tourism payment rollout in May this year and builds on Binance's broader QR network expansion plans. According to SB Seker, head of Asia-Pacific at Binance, 'Integrating Binance Pay with Bhutan's domestic QR network shows what real-world crypto adoption looks like when it's built on infrastructure people already trust.'
The partnership enables merchants to accept payments in USDT through automatic foreign exchange conversion. Customers can enter prices in Bhutanese ngultrum (BTN) and confirm transactions inside the Binance app.
Bhutan has also linked its digital finance strategy with wider initiatives, including a financial services licensing framework that includes bank-account requirements. Ugyen Tenzin, DK Bank's country CEO for Bhutan and Gelephu Mindfulness City, said 'We are proud to partner with Binance to bring cutting-edge crypto payment solutions to Bhutan's merchants and visitors.'
