Binance Faces Fresh Criticism Over Bitcoin Price Anomaly
Renowned technical analyst and Factor LLC CEO Peter Brandt has publicly questioned the reliability of Binance's trading infrastructure. The issue arose on August 22, when a deep anomaly in Bitcoin's price triggered a cascade of forced liquidations and knocked out retail clients' protective orders on the exchange.
During this time, the price of Bitcoin on Binance plummeted to $72,500 within seconds, while the broader market remained near $79,000. This localized flash crash was not seen on competing platforms like Coinbase, where the lowest price of Bitcoin remained at $75,800, resulting in a $3,300 interexchange spread.
Brandt described this incident as another 'boondoggle' by Binance that caused ordinary retail traders to get 'stopped out' far below the actual market lows. He emphasized that the exchange has a history of severe stop-outs, recalling a similar incident on October 10, 2025.
