Binance Founder CZ Sentenced to Four Months in Prison for AML Lapses

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, has been sentenced to four months in prison by a US court for violating the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) due to Binance's failure to implement an efficient anti-money laundering (AML) program.

The investigation into Binance began in 2020 and discovered that the exchange did not have a strong enough AML program, leading to illegal activities on the platform.

Zhao has agreed to assist the Justice Department's investigation and pay a fine of $100,000 as part of a non-prosecution agreement. The recent verdict against Binance is a significant setback for the company, which has faced various regulatory challenges and legal issues over the past few years.
