Binance Futures Trading Volumes Soar Past Spot Markets
The Bitcoin trading volume ratio on Binance has hit a record high, with futures trading volumes nearly eight times higher than spot markets. According to data from CryptoQuant, the futures-to-spot trading volume ratio stands at 7.82, indicating that futures demand is significantly outpacing spot demand.
This trend reflects a shift in market activity, with more investors and traders preferring to use futures for leverage, risk management, and short-term trading strategies.
The data also shows that Bitcoin has spent the past two months in a narrow range above $60,000, contributing to a lack of interest among spot traders. Traders initiated a major spike in onchain realized losses in February, when Bitcoin first dropped to the $60,000 mark, but subsequent retests have seen lower volume as both buyers and sellers have become exhausted.
Meanwhile, options traders are positioning for a downside resolution of the current range in September, following familiar bear-market behavioral patterns. According to Bitfinex, options traders are effectively pricing in a continuation of the range and hedging for a downside resolution several weeks from now.
