Binance Grabs Nearly 40% of Crypto Trading Volume Amid Market Concentration
Crypto trading has become increasingly concentrated, with Binance accounting for roughly 37% of spot trading volume among the top 10 centralized exchanges in Q1 2026.
This dominance is not a one-quarter anomaly but rather a structural reality of the market, according to CoinGecko data. In fact, Binance's share has remained stable between 37-40% over the past year, despite a slight dip from its full-year 2025 performance of 39.2%.
The next five largest exchanges - Bybit, MEXC, Gate.io, Crypto.com, and Bitget - collectively control around 20% of spot trading volume, while Binance alone captures more than half of the total market share.
This concentration creates a self-reinforcing cycle: traders flock to platforms with deep order books, which in turn attract even more liquidity. However, this also poses risks, including single points of failure that can ripple across the entire market if a major exchange were to collapse or face regulatory action.
