Binance Helps Indian Authorities Dismantle Darknet Drug Trafficking Network
Binance has played a significant role in helping India's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) dismantle a darknet drug trafficking network. Richard Teng, Binance CEO, stated that the company worked with the Digital Security Council of India (DSCI) to support the NCB investigation using blockchain transaction tracing.
The operation involved leveraging on-chain analytics to follow cryptocurrency transactions linked to the alleged crime, allowing authorities to identify financial flows associated with illegal activities conducted through darknet marketplaces. This highlights the growing role of blockchain intelligence in modern law enforcement investigations and demonstrates how cryptocurrency exchanges are increasingly collaborating with government agencies to combat financial crime.
Teng explained that Binance provided technical assistance to the NCB during the investigation, indicating that blockchain transaction tracing played an important role in identifying financial movements connected to the alleged criminal organization. Unlike traditional cash-based transactions, cryptocurrency transfers conducted on public blockchains leave permanent transaction records that investigators can analyze when combined with intelligence gathered from exchanges and compliance systems.
