Binance Seeks UK Crypto License Amid New Regulatory Framework
Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, is set to apply for a crypto license from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as part of its strategic push to re-enter the British market.
The FCA has announced a new regulatory framework that will require crypto firms to meet stringent authorization, governance, and compliance standards. Companies seeking to operate in the UK must establish a local base and demonstrate adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) rules.
Binance's move comes after years of regulatory friction between the exchange and UK authorities. In 2021, the FCA ordered Binance Markets Limited to cease regulated activities, effectively barring the exchange from offering certain services in the country.
The new licensing regime is expected to take full effect on October 25, 2027, with the FCA starting to accept applications on September 30. Companies that fail to meet the standards may face delays or rejection, making early preparation critical.
