Binance has announced that its security team successfully thwarted a malicious governance proposal aimed at draining approximately $1.2 million from an unnamed decentralized autonomous organization's treasury.

The attack targeted the project's on-chain governance mechanism, rather than a smart contract vulnerability. According to Binance, an attacker exploited a low threshold for submitting proposals on the platform, attempting to bypass the protocol's normal requirements for passing a vote.

Binance's monitoring systems detected the proposal with less than 48 hours remaining before it could be executed and alerted the project directly, urging its community to vote down the proposal. The exchange also coordinated with other centralized exchanges listing the affected token to temporarily pause deposits as a precautionary measure.
