Binance Struggles with European Regulation
Binance remains the largest crypto exchange platform in the world, but it has not been accessible to French residents since July 1, 2026.
This is due to the lack of MiCA approval, which requires any platform serving Union clients to obtain CASP approval from a national regulator.
The European MiCA regulation's transitional period ended on June 30, 2026, and Binance informed its French users that no group entity would obtain this approval in time.
Despite having a SAFU fund of about $1 billion and monthly proofs of reserves, the platform has a heavy regulatory past, including a $4.3 billion fine in 2023 for historic failures in anti-money laundering and sanctions controls.
