BIP-110 Bitcoin Fork Falters Due to Lack of Miner Support
A new Bitcoin fork, BIP-110, has been deemed a failure after it failed to gain broad miner support. The chain split occurred at block 961,632 and has since fallen behind the main Bitcoin network, producing blocks at an average interval of about 6.9 hours compared to the standard one block every 10 minutes.
The overwhelming majority of Bitcoin's mining power has continued extending the conventional chain, with Blockstream CEO Adam Back calling it 'They forked off and found out.'
Even before the split, Michael Saylor warned that BIP-110 would stall into irrelevance due to its lack of support. With only 2.6% miner signaling, the proposal's author Luke Dashjr remains defiant, accusing opponents of deliberately misrepresenting the situation.
