BIP-110 Enters Mandatory-Signaling Phase Amid Low Miner Support
Bitcoin's BIP-110 proposal has entered its mandatory-signaling phase at block 961,632. Despite miner support being below the required threshold of 55%, the proposal will continue to be tested by nodes enforcing BIP-110.
The low signaling rate means a sustained rival chain is unlikely without greater miner participation. A minority BIP-110 branch has emerged but is falling behind the dominant chain.
BIP-110 proposes temporary limits on Bitcoin data, including restrictions on output scripts, OP_RETURN outputs, and witness elements. Proponents argue that these restrictions would discourage inscriptions and other non-monetary data that increase storage costs for node operators.
