BIP-110 Fork Falters with Meager Miner Support
The Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) 110 fork triggered a mandatory signaling phase at block 961,632, but it has stalled with only two blocks mined in approximately eight hours. This is a stark contrast to the primary chain, which has mined 48 blocks during the same period.
The issue lies in miner participation, as only 2.53% of miners signaled support for BIP-110, falling short of the required 55%. The fork's nodes started blocking non-compliant blocks, creating a separate minority chain that inherited Bitcoin's mining difficulty but controls minimal hashpower.
As a result, the BIP-110 chain has been delayed in its next difficulty recalibration by roughly 350 days. Prominent figures like Michael Saylor and Adam Back had previously cautioned that BIP-110 could fracture the Bitcoin network.
