BIP-110 Mandatory Phase Begins Amidst Low Miner Support
The contentious Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) 110 has entered its mandatory phase after only 2.53% of miners signaled support in the previous 2,016 blocks.
This means that nodes enforcing BIP-110 will reject non-signaling blocks between heights 961,632 and 963,647, but so far, the enforcing branch has stalled at block 961,633 while the main chain reached 961,731.
The proposal would temporarily restrict several transaction structures, including output scripts, OP_RETURN outputs, data pushes, and witness elements, but supporters argue that these restrictions are needed to discourage non-monetary data use.
