BIP-110 Proposal Fails to Gain Sufficient Miner Support
A proposal known as BIP-110 aimed to restrict non-financial data storage on the Bitcoin blockchain. However, it failed to gain sufficient support and was unable to create a viable alternative network.
The BIP-110 proposal sought to implement a temporary restriction on using the Bitcoin blockchain for non-financial data storage via a user-activated soft fork (UASF). Despite this approach, nearly all miners chose to remain on the main Bitcoin network, with only 2.53% signaling support for the proposal.
The alternative network inherited Bitcoin's high mining difficulty but lacked sufficient hashrate to produce blocks at a normal rate. As a result, it was able to mine only two blocks before falling behind the main network.
