BIP-110 Soft Fork Collapses After Two Blocks Mined
A proposed Bitcoin soft fork called BIP-110 split from the main chain after block 961,632 this week, but its lifespan was short-lived. The pool backing it, Roughnecks, managed to mine only two blocks before the rest of the network's hashpower abandoned it.
The proposed fix aimed to reserve space in Bitcoin blocks for payments by limiting non-monetary data, such as Ordinals and Runes. However, the attempt showed how little leverage a minority has once the majority refuses to follow.
Bitcoin's original chain continued to move at its usual pace, reaching block 961,651 within about a day. The gap between the two chains grew significantly, with Michael Saylor estimating that more than 80 blocks separated them.
