BIP-110 Supporters Struggle to Keep Pace with Main BTC Chain
A minority chain created by supporters of BIP-110 on the Bitcoin network has been struggling to keep pace with the main BTC chain. The divergence occurred after block number 961,632 and has resulted in a significant lag, with the BIP-110 chain falling behind by 18 blocks.
The Roughnecks mining pool, which supports BIP-110, was only able to produce two blocks during this period, while the main BTC network produced 19. This is likely due to the fact that the BIP-110 chain has a much lower hash power compared to the main BTC network and continued to operate with the same mining difficulty.
Matthew Kratter, a supporter of BIP-110, acknowledged that a 'very large change' in hash power would be needed for the minority chain to catch up with and surpass the Bitcoin main chain again. Some supporters have begun discussing the option of switching to a different proof-of-work mining algorithm to improve the sustainability of the current chain.
BIP-110 is a controversial proposal aimed at restricting certain transaction and data usage patterns on the Bitcoin network.
