Bipartisan Crypto Bill Faces Delays Amid Ongoing Negotiations
Senators Cynthia Lummis and Angela Alsobrooks remain committed to passing the Clarity Act, despite a delay in its vote. The bill aims to protect consumers, limit deposit flight, fight illicit finance, and include a fair deal on ethics.
Lummis had previously criticized Democrats for holding back the bill, but she and Alsobrooks have continued working together on a bipartisan basis. Alsobrooks stated that they've worked for over a year to get the Clarity Act right, while Lummis emphasized that 'we've come too far to quit.'
The delay in the vote is due to the bill's complex text and disagreements between banking lobby chiefs and crypto exchanges over stablecoin products. Democrats have also sought more work on the ethics side of the bill.
