Bitcoin Active Addresses Surge Amid Security Concerns
Bitcoin's active addresses have reached a 15-month high of over 0.98 million daily, according to Glassnode data. This surge may not be a sign of renewed investor demand, but rather security concerns following the public disclosure of a firmware exploit on Coldcard wallets.
The transfer of 49.97 BTC by an early Bitcoin holder, who had kept their coins unopened for nearly 15 years, contributed to the spike in active addresses. The OG whale's holdings have increased in value by over 634,000% since July 2011, when they first received Bitcoin at an average price of around $10.
The wallet was last active on August 6th, 2026, and has not been linked to any known person or organization. Dormant-wallet activity often draws attention due to its potential to precede selling, but this transfer did not confirm a sale.
