Bitcoin Address Boom Raises Security Concerns Amid Market Turbulence
A recent spike in Bitcoin's active addresses may be a sign of security concerns rather than renewed investor demand, according to data from Glassnode.
The number of daily active addresses rose to 0.98 million, its highest level since December 2024, likely due to users moving funds into newly created wallets after a firmware exploit became public.
This movement was accompanied by the transfer of $3.23 million worth of Bitcoin from an early holder who had kept their coins unopened for almost 15 years.
The investor, known as a 'Bitcoin OG whale,' received their first Bitcoins in July 2011, when the price averaged around $10. Over the holding period, their holdings increased by over 634,000%.
