Bitcoin Address Count Surpasses 56 Million
The number of Bitcoin addresses holding at least a small amount of BTC has surpassed 56 million, according to data recorded around July 30, 2026. This figure represents a significant growth in adoption, as it is not just whales or exchanges consolidating funds, but millions of individuals and entities deciding that owning zero Bitcoin is no longer the right choice.
Comparing this to previous years, fewer than 10 million addresses held any Bitcoin at all back in 2017. By 2024, that number had crossed 50 million, and now it sits near 57 million. This means the address count has roughly doubled every few years through periods of both euphoric rallies and painful drawdowns.
The monthly net additions to this total also tell a similar story. In the weeks leading up to September 2026, the network was adding an average of around 150,000 new non-zero balance addresses per month.
