Bitcoin as Financial Freedom: Moss vs. Schiff on Retirement Strategies
Mark Moss, an analyst and entrepreneur, argues that owning Bitcoin can provide a form of financial freedom without the need to sell it. He suggests that individuals should aim to stay in the 'owner column' rather than being forced into the 'consumer column'. Moss claims that selling Bitcoin triggers tax events, eliminates collateral, and converts long-term assets into short-term spending.
Moss points out that billionaires and creators often remain active well into old age, and he proposes a strategy of borrowing against Bitcoin with discipline. He advocates for low loan-to-value ratios, multiple liquidity layers, and reserving asset sales as a last resort.
In contrast to Moss' views, economist Peter Schiff argues that retiring on Bitcoin only works if someone bought it long ago and sells before a crash. Schiff's stance is in opposition to Moss', who sees Bitcoin as structural infrastructure for generating liquidity without abandoning ownership.
