Bitcoin at $77k: Analysts Warn Fed Decision Could Squeeze Crypto Markets
Investors are holding their breath as they await the Federal Reserve's (Fed) policy decision on Wednesday, September 16. Bitcoin has been trading near $77,000, with analysts warning that a hawkish surprise could put pressure on crypto markets.
Nicolai Søndergaard, senior research analyst at Nansen, told Cryptonews.net that traders have adopted a cautious position ahead of the Fed's decision, even though a 25-basis-point rate increase is likely priced into the market. 'Investors are not rushing for the exits, but they are not chasing risk either; they are staying in the majors and waiting for the Fed to show its hand,' he said.
The range-bound market is expected to remain until central bank meetings provide clearer direction. A move above $83,000 or below $76,000 would require strong spot-market volume to be considered a valid directional break, according to Søndergaard.
Bitfinex analysts also identified a similar trading range, expecting the Fed decision to produce volatility for Bitcoin to test liquidity near both $82,000 and $76,000. Market caution has appeared in U.S.-listed investment products, with spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds posting net outflows of around $463 million last week.
The CLARITY Act vote scheduled for Tuesday afternoon adds another risk factor for crypto markets. A failed procedural vote followed by hawkish Fed projections could compound the effect on crypto markets, according to ViaBTC chief analyst Jeff Ko.
