Bitcoin Beach Sees Near-Zero Crypto Payments, Adoption Concerns Rise

Jon Atack, a long-time contributor to Bitcoin Core and resident of El Salvador's Bitcoin Beach, expressed concern over the low adoption level of bitcoin payments in the country. He shared his experience after paying with BTC at El Zonte, where he was told that it had been over a month since anyone made a bitcoin payment.

The region, known for its high adoption rate of cryptocurrencies, has seen a significant decline in everyday use of bitcoin as a form of payment. Vendors reported that almost all customers now pay by card, rather than with BTC.

Atack's comments sparked a mix of reactions from the community, with some agreeing that there is an economics problem at hand and others refuting his experience. Juan Galt, a bitcoin reporter, noted that users may be hoarding their BTC, expecting price hikes, which undermines its use in a circular economy.
