Bitcoin BIP-110 Enters Signaling Period with Limited Miner Support
Bitcoin's BIP-110 proposal has entered its signaling period after block 961,632 was reached. This sets the stage for a potential dispute between miners and node operators over handling non-financial data on the blockchain.
The signaling phase began at approximately 19:35 UTC on Saturday, but early miner support remains extremely limited, rarely exceeding 2.5%. BIP-110 supporters are pursuing the proposal as a user-activated soft fork (UASF), which could put pressure on miners to comply but also carries the risk of a chain split.
Supporters point to Bitcoin's 2017 SegWit activation and BIP-148 as precedents for using a UASF. However, BIP-110 faces a different environment given its minimal miner support.
