Bitcoin Blasts Past $72K as $2.7B Short Squeeze Ignites Frenzied Trading
Bitcoin surged past $72,000 after a massive short squeeze worth $2.7 billion, its largest since 2021. This sudden price increase was accompanied by a significant rise in trading volume, which rose five times from previous week lows.
The Binance perp (perpetual contract) volume also reached an impressive $100 billion, one of the highest daily totals for 2026, while spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $517 million in inflows, their largest since May. This influx of capital into the market suggests a strong demand for BTC.
However, some analysts may be warning about the potential for a correction, as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has reached 91.48, indicating an overbought condition. Additionally, Bitcoin is testing the upper Bollinger Band resistance at $74,874.38, which could lead to a healthy retracement towards the 50-EMA before continued growth.
