Bitcoin Breaks $14K Weekly Gain Record, Faces Resistance at $80K

Bitcoin's record weekly gain has pushed it into uncharted territory after adding $14,264 in seven days and closing at $77,387. This 22.7% advance is the largest dollar-denominated weekly increase in Bitcoin's history.

The move began after the U.S. Treasury doubled planned liquidity-support buybacks for longer-dated debt from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation, while renewed demand through U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds added another source of buying.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $1.92 billion in net inflows during the trading week ended Aug. 21, their strongest weekly total since October 2025. This flow shows solid proof of institutional demand alongside the price advance.

BTC faces resistance at $80,000 as technical data places support near $75,450 and resistance around $79,300. The relative strength index is near 71.6, above the overbought threshold, while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index stands at 78.
