Bitcoin Breaks $75K Barrier as Crypto Rally Gains Momentum
Bitcoin broke above $75,000 for the first time since late May, sparking hopes of another crypto rally. The surge was driven by falling US Treasury yields and stronger trading activity, with Ethereum and XRP also gaining significantly.
The sharp price increase has been particularly damaging to traders who had bet on Bitcoin's decline, with over $2.75 billion in short positions being liquidated on August 19 alone. However, analysts remain divided over whether the rally represents genuine demand or simply a correction of overly bearish bets.
One factor contributing to the surge is the US Treasury's decision to increase its bond buyback operations from $2 billion to $4 billion per transaction between September 9 and November 4. This move has pushed down longer-dated government bond yields, making riskier assets like cryptocurrencies more attractive.
