Bitcoin Breaks Above 200-Day MAs as Short Liquidations Fuel Rally
Bitcoin's price has surged to $72,490, surpassing its 200-day moving averages after forced short covering. The move above the averages comes as Bitcoin broke out of a range that had contained it since July.
The rally is attributed to short liquidations, with over $1 billion in Bitcoin shorts closed during one hour and $2.7 billion in bearish positions across the broader crypto market. This has increased the speed of the move, but demand generated by forced covering can fade once the largest short clusters have been cleared.
The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading is at 78.7, well above the 70 level commonly used to mark overbought conditions. Analysts are watching for support around $67,000 and $65,000 as potential pullback zones.
